A lot scarier than the 2003 live action Haunted Mansion movie made by Disney. Humour tones down the horror, but has some sequences and jump scares. The Hatbox Ghost may be scary to some people.

Ghosts swirl through the screen in bulk, and characters -- including a child -- are in constant peril. All of this makes the movie more appropriate for older tweens and teens than younger or more sensitive children.

As such, Haunted Mansion is a fine film. At least, that's what my inner film critic would say… Haunted Mansion is also one of the few movies out there that has me split between film appreciation and my Christian beliefs. As a Christian, I actually cannot recommend this film.

According to Common Sense Media, “Haunted Mansion” is rated PG-13 for violence, frightening scenes, supernatural elements such as dark magic and the appearance of a Ouija board and some alcohol use. The site recommends the movie for kids 11 years old and older.

The Haunted Mansion closed for refurbishment on January 22, 2024, while the Grim Grinning Ghosts materialize an expanded queue and a new retail shop. Since a reopening date has not been announced yet, even Madame Leota cannot predict the expected closure dates for January 2025 at this time.

Violence & Scariness

Kids are smacked right across the face, verbally tormented. In one episode, a woman drowns her children and then antagonizes another child for years as a ghost. Car accidents, hangings, knife and gunplay, and a supposed demonic possession. Lots of blood.

Anyone can enjoy attractions that do not have height requirements. Your toddler can ride in a carrier on attractions that don't have lap bars or seatbelts, and they can sit on your lap for rides like Peter Pans Flight, Haunted Mansion, and Little Mermaid, to name a few.

They're scary in the sense that ghosts in general are scary, and there are a couple of effective little jump-scare jolts scattered throughout the film, but they're not necessarily going to give a kid who's game for this kind of movie any nightmares.

Compared To The 2023 Film Where Both Ben And Travis Learn To Overcome Their Grief The 2003 Feels Like It Had A Good Idea Some Where But It's Buried Under Some Filler. Ben And Travis' Plot Points Are Treated Better Where The Mansion Serves As An Obstacle For Them To Overcome And Hardly Any Thing Feels Unnecessary.

The first few minutes in the Disney Haunted Mansion can be claustrophobic, as everyone crowds into the stretching room. You'll also experience about 5 seconds of complete darkness. Small children may be frightened by that and the noise.
