Montgomery County Maryland (2024)

Montgomery County will once again host two free Independence Day fireworks displays, one on Thursday, July 4, and the other on Saturday, July 6. The Independence Day celebrations will take place at the following locations:

  • Thursday, July 4, 7 p.m.: Germantown Glory at South Germantown Recreational Park, located at 18041 Central Park Circle in Germantown (Boyds)
  • Saturday, July 6, 6 p.m.: Mid-County Sparkles at Albert Einstein High School, located at 11135 Newport Mill Road, Kensington

The Montgomery County minimum wage rate will increase on July 1 to keep pace with local inflation as required by County law. Starting July 1, the minimum wage rate for large employers (with 51 or more employees) will increase to $17.15 per hour, while the minimum wage rate for mid-sized employers (with 11-50 employees) will increase to $15.50 per hour. Due to a change in State law, the rate for small employers (10 or fewer employees) was increased to $15 per hour on Jan.1, 2024. This $15 wage rate for small businesses will remain in effect for the next twelve months. For more information, see the press release.

The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services has launched “eSolar,” an automated permitting application to speed up the permitting process for residential rooftop solar systems by approved installers. Read the news release to learn how this program can save you time and money.

Metro will close Red Line stations between Glenmont and Takoma from Saturday, June 1, through Saturday, August 31. The closure will be extended to Fort Totten from Saturday, June 1, through Saturday, June 29.Free shuttle buses will be available at Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring, Takoma, and Fort Totten and will operate during Metrorail hours.
